Proverbs 15:11; Proverbs 20:27
11 Death and Destruction [a] lie open before the LORD—
how much more the hearts of men!
27 The lamp of the LORD searches the spirit of a man [a] ;
it searches out his inmost being.
Imagine what life would be like if there were no "inner thoughts" and everything that came to our minds was immediately expressed and then recorded for all to see. Would we have any friends? Would we want any friends? I have a feeling that nobody would be very likable under those conditions. But according to these proverbs, that is exactly how God sees us. It is no wonder that so many are afraid of Him, so many run away from Him and try to pretend He doesn't exist. Without Jesus Christ to cover up these things for us, we are left with the truth exposed to Him-- we are sinful people at heart. But when we are covered by the blood of Jesus we are separated from these sinful thoughts as if they never occurred. The personal sin that we try to forget, that we pretend never happend, that we try to make up for with good works, can be erased only by believing in His ability to do that for us. Apart from that, the truth about ourselves, our sins and our guilt will continue to haunt us.
