Romans 6:6

6For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

Anyone who is a Christian is free from all kinds of bondage. Anything that is holding us back right now from the joyful, productive Christian life has no legal power and should not be. In the book, Pilgrims Progress, Christian was held captive in the dungeon of Doubting Castle by a tyrant named Giant Despair. Day after day he was punished by Giant Despair, tortured to within an inch of his life. Christain was so miserable he didn't think he could go on. But it turned out that Christian had the key to the dungeon cell in his pocket the entire time. As soon as he remembered, he unlocked the door and walked right through the front gate of the castle. He felt like a fool for not remembering it sooner.

Many of us, like Christian, have been spending too much time in Doubting Castle, being pummeled by many different kinds of giants. But anyone who has died (accepted Jesus that is) is free from sin of all kind-- doubt, despair and fear (all sins) included. We have this key to escape, so lets go! What in the world are we doing here?
